Staying Safe in Icy Conditions
When it comes to the winter months and getting colder in the winter season, you don't want to end up in a slip and trip accident. The roads can easily become slippery and cold, causing you to slip and potentially get into an accident.
It is important to think about how you can prepare to make sure that you are safe when you go driving on the road.
It doesn't matter what size of a property you might have, because you can always take steps to be sure the walkway is clear and ready for people to pass.
Entrances and Walkways
Lighting is something that often isn't thought about when it comes to the walkway and the workplace area. Can you see hazards that might be on the ground? Would more lighting help to address that?
If the lighting changes what you might be able to see on the road, then it's important to address that and improve the light.
If you are interested in potentially reducing the risk of slipping on any snow, ice, or frost etc., then you need to consider the risk and put a system in that will be able to address it and manage it. Look for outdoor areas that people might use, an area that could become covered with ice.
Think about entrances to a building, walkways, any area where you might find some shade or a wet area.
These are perfect places to check and prepare when you are looking to get things ready if the cold weather hits or snow comes around if it's been raining all day and ice starts to form etc.
Check the Weather
If the temperatures are going to be dropping, then you need to take preparations to be ready. Look at the weather service and see what it says. Check the Met Office link or Highways England link and access additional information.
Make sure that you have taken steps to prevent an icy and dangerous surface and to address the situation when the cold weather comes rolling in.
Consider diverting pedestrians away from dangerous areas that might be slippery, directing them to safer walkways. You could use signs, cones, additional lighting, many tools to help get the job done.
Using Grit Salt
Grit Salt is also a great tool that you do not want to overlook because it can be used to help to stop the ice from forming. It can also help to cause the existing snow or ice to melt.
Don't forget to grab some salt; you don't want to be caught without it when there comes a time for it.
It's a valuable necessity when you are preparing for those winter months ahead. Make sure that you aren't without a shovel or snow removal plan.
Get all of this thought of before the bad weather comes so that you are ready to deal with it whenever the autumn or winter season brings ice, snow, or frost. Be prepared, and you'll be safer, ready for what's to come.
We offer rock salt spreading throughout Aberdeen, Peterhead, Dundee and Aberdeenshire. Follow the link below to find out more about the areas that we offer road gritting in north Scotland.
